Job Summary
Directly supervise wildlife rehabilitation, admissions, and volunteer staff, providing coaching, mentoring, performance evaluations, and corrective actions up to termination. Collaborate with the Associate Director to prepare annual budgets, manage departmental expenses, and oversee animal care supply inventory. Participate in internal animal evaluation processes, perform euthanasia according to AVMA guidelines, and maintain certification as a euthanasia technician. Manage all wildlife movements, including releases, introductions, and transfers, while ensuring compliance with rabies pre-exposure requirements and driving company vehicles. This role supports the Project Wildlife team at the Bahde Wildlife Center, focusing on delivering gold-standard animal welfare services aligned with SDHS Core Values.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Conservation, Animal Science, Veterinary Science, Zoology or other related field
- Four (4) years of full time related experience working with animals in a wildlife rehabilitation, wildlife sanctuary, zoo, shelter, or veterinary hospital, or any equivalent combination of education and experience
- One (1) year of supervisor experience
- Must be willing to get rabies pre-exposure series or produce a copy of current rabies pre-exposure series vaccine or titers record
- Must be willing to have rabies titer levels checked every two years and receive boosters as needed
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Must be approved by SDHS insurance carrier to drive a company or personal vehicle for work purposes
- Must be comfortable using a personal vehicle to transport animals

Desired Qualifications
- Two (2) years of supervisor experience
- Experience using the Wildlife Medical Data Base (WRMD)
