Job Summary
Operations Manager at NRG Energy serves as Day Shift Supervisor for an 800 MW 2×1 combined cycle facility (including BOP and ZLD) at the Ironwood Generating Facility in Lebanon, PA. The role provides field leadership during high-risk evolutions, enforces operations procedures and safety rules, and ensures timely communication of plant status. Responsibilities cover direct supervision of Operations personnel, coordinating outages and maintenance, overseeing LOTO and startup/shutdown activities, and ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and NERC requirements. The incumbent also trains and mentors staff toward CRO qualifications, manages plant performance data, and supports continual improvement in operational discipline using CMMS (Maximo/SAP) and DCS tools, P&IDs, and related instrumentation knowledge.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Associate’s degree or technical certification preferred
- Minimum 3–5 years Control Room Operator (CRO) or supervisory experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of combined cycle plant operations (CTGs, STG, HRSG, BOP)
- Working knowledge of Siemens T3000 DCS
- Strong understanding of LOTO, switching, and energy control procedures
- Ability to supervise and lead personnel in a union environment
- Proficiency in CMMS (Maximo and SAP preferred) systems
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, logic diagrams, and electrical one-lines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Siemens T3000 DCS experience
- ZLD experience preferred
- Water chemistry knowledge for HRSG, cooling tower, boilers, and demin systems
- Safety, environmental, and NERC compliance awareness
- Experience with startup/shutdowns, outages, and abnormal condition response
- Outage planning and coordination experience

- Safety and environmental regulatory compliance awareness
- Outage planning and coordination experience
- Training/mentoring CRO qualifications
- Rotating shifts and overtime availability
- Experience with startups, shutdowns, and abnormal condition response
- DCS and plant instrumentation experience
- Experience with Siemens combustion turbines, steam turbines, HRSGs, generators
- ZLD experience preferred
- CMMS workflow optimization and asset management
- Root-cause analysis and problem solving in plant operations
