Operations Manager

Job Summary

Oversee daily interstate transportation operations for bulk fuel, aviation fuel, and heavy equipment hauling, coordinating dispatch schedules, route planning, and fleet utilization while ensuring FMCSA and DOT compliance. Lead driver performance evaluations, maintenance coordination, and safety initiatives to minimize downtime and maintain regulatory standards. Manage customer relationships, resolve service disruptions in real time, and facilitate the onboarding of new accounts by aligning operational requirements with business development goals. Collaborate with leadership to drive profitability through cost controls and process improvements. This hybrid role requires availability for after-hours emergency calls and occasional travel across California, Nevada, and Oregon.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Associate's degree or higher
  • Minimum of three (3) years of operations experience
  • Experience managing 24/7 dispatch operations
  • Knowledge of FMCSA/DOT regulations
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials transportation
  • Knowledge of fleet operations
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance practices
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams)
  • Experience with transportation management, dispatch, or fleet software
  • Experience with QuickBooks and general accounting procedures
  • Strong computer, internet research, data entry, and office equipment skills
  • Typing proficiency of approximately 50 words per minute
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software, technologies, and operational processes
  • Excellent verbal, written, email, and telephone communication skills
  • Must be able to effectively speak, read, write, and understand English
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and make timely, responsible decisions in a fast-paced environment

  • Knowledge of DOT inspection, maintenance, and repair requirements under FMCSA regulations
  • Ability to identify maintenance trends and coordinate timely repairs to minimize fleet downtime
  • Experience scheduling and managing routine preventative maintenance and major repair activities
  • Ability to prioritize equipment repairs based on operational needs, safety requirements, and regulatory compliance
  • Knowledge of commercial vehicle inspection standards, including pre-trip, post-trip, annual inspections, and out-of-service criteria
  • Availability to respond to after-hours calls, emergencies, operational issues, equipment breakdowns, and other business needs outside of normal working hours

Desired Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or higher preferred
  • Experience managing 24/7 dispatch operations preferred
  • Knowledge of FMCSA/DOT regulations, hazardous materials transportation, fleet operations, and preventative maintenance practices preferred
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment transportation permitting and routing is a plus
  • Experience with transportation management, dispatch, or fleet software preferred
