Job Summary
Coordinate road projects and maintenance on AMC's 400+ mile network while overseeing timber harvests and ensuring silvicultural objectives are met. Manage multi-year operational planning for infrastructure, including road construction, bridge crossings, and winterization, by working with local contractors and external partners. Develop layouts for commercial and pre-commercial forestry projects, oversee road and bridge inventory, and handle data management for all MWI infrastructure. Conduct contract administration and inspections, perform property line layout and marking, and collaborate with volunteers on land and trail projects. Requires a Bachelor's in Forestry, Maine forester license, 3-5 years of operational forest experience, and GIS proficiency. Must relocate to Piscataquis County, ME. Salary $54,364-$73,353.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Forestry or other natural-resource related field with a focus on forest management
- Licensed forester in the State of Maine or the ability to become a licensed forester
- 3-5 years of experience working in the forest sector in an operational capacity
- Professional experience with overseeing forest road maintenance, construction, and project design
- Familiarity and professional experience with GIS software to create maps and utilize the software for planning and management
- Experience managing harvest crews to meet the silvicultural objectives of the landowner
- Knowledge of silvicultural harvest operations and harvest systems
- Ability to work independently to achieve department goals and objectives as part of a high functioning team
- Must be comfortable and able to work alone in a backcountry setting traveling by truck, snowmobile, ATV, snowshoe, and hiking
- Ability to relocate to Piscataquis County, ME or within a commutable distance to AMC's property
- Criminal background record check performed on their name annually with employment contingent upon satisfactory results
