Job Summary
Lead the day-to-day operations of shelter medicine and community veterinary outreach programs by directly supervising veterinary support staff, managing hiring, scheduling, and performance. Partner with supervising veterinarians to translate clinical priorities into effective staffing, workflows, and resource plans while identifying bottlenecks to improve efficiency. Oversee inventory, purchasing, equipment, vendor relationships, and veterinary software systems, ensuring compliance with all applicable veterinary, safety, and regulatory requirements. Manage departmental resources and participate in annual budget development. Track operational performance using data to identify improvement opportunities and build strong relationships across Shelter Operations and other departments. Serve as a member of the Senior Leadership Team for organization-wide planning.
Required Qualifications
- At least three years of successful supervisory or management experience
- An established professional history in veterinary operations, animal sheltering, or a related field
- Experience leading veterinary support staff or comparable teams
- A strong understanding of veterinary practice operations and workflows
- Demonstrated ability to develop people, build effective teams, and navigate personnel issues
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
- A collaborative leadership style and the ability to work effectively with veterinarians, support staff, volunteers, and organizational leaders
Desired Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree, Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) credential, and experience in shelter medicine, HQHVSN, nonprofit veterinary practice, or community medicine
