Operations Analyst (Scenario Design), Discovery
$146,000–$194,000 year
On-site · Costa Mesa, California, United States
Job Summary
Design and develop medium- to high-fidelity mission simulations and operational scenarios that model real-world defense environments, system behaviors, and mission outcomes. Build and refine simulation logic, behavior trees, and system interactions for autonomous platforms, sensors, weapons, and command-and-control behaviors. Develop operational models capturing radar behavior, sensor performance, platform interactions, environmental effects, and mission constraints across multi-domain scenarios. Implement and integrate simulation components using tools such as AFSIM, STK, MATLAB/Simulink, Python (NumPy/SciPy), or comparable modeling frameworks. Create technically credible simulation environments used for customer demonstrations, operational analysis, experimentation, and mission visualization. Collaborate with autonomy, software, hardware, and perception teams to ensure simulation behaviors reflect real system capabilities and limitations. Prototype and validate scenario designs through iterative testing, tuning, and analysis to ensure operational realism and technical accuracy. Translate complex operational concepts into intuitive, narrative-driven showcase experiences without sacrificing technical fidelity. Work with military subject matter experts and operational stakeholders to validate tactics, mission flows, and engagement behaviors. Identify modeling gaps, technical constraints, and fidelity tradeoffs early in development and propose scalable solutions. Contribute to simulation architecture, scenario design standards, and best practices across the Showcase organization. Requires Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience, plus active U.S. Secret security clearance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Operations Research, Modeling & Simulation, or a related technical field (or equivalent professional experience)
- 2+ years of professional experience in developing simulations, operational models, wargames, or mission environments for defense, aerospace, autonomy, robotics, or related technical domains
- Experience building and implementing system-level models that simulate platform behaviors, sensor interactions, environmental effects, or mission outcomes
- Strong communication skills with the ability to create clear design documentation and incorporate stakeholder feedback
- Hands-on experience with modeling and simulation tools such as AFSIM, STK, MATLAB/Simulink, or Python-based scientific computing frameworks (e.g., NumPy, SciPy)
- Experience designing behavior trees, autonomy logic, state machines, or agent-based behaviors for simulated systems
- Experience debugging, validating, and iterating on complex simulation environments
- Analytical skills for scenario balancing and iterative design
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Active U.S. Secret security clearance
