Job Summary
Assist the operating room team before, during, and after donor organ recovery, transplant surgeries, and hepatobiliary procedures. Under physician direction, prepare organs for perfusion, monitor preservation parameters, and communicate findings to the surgeon. Apply advanced sterile and aseptic techniques to support invasive, therapeutic, and diagnostic interventions while maintaining the Organ Preservation Laboratory, including inventory management and equipment maintenance. Collect and document data in accordance with UNOS requirements and hospital protocols. Requires CST certification, two years of surgical technology experience, and willingness to provide on-call coverage for liver transplant procedures. Reports to Operating Room Nursing Management and the Administrative Director of the Liver Center.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Associate's Degree in a science-related field preferred
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technician Program
- Certified Surgical Technician (CST) certification through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (or equivalent)
- American Heart Association (AHA) CPR certification
- Minimum of two (2) years of surgical technology experience
- Must demonstrate understanding, patience, and tact when interacting with physicians and co-workers
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent hand-eye coordination
- Must be self-motivated and able to work efficiently and effectively
- Willingness to work collaboratively with employees of varying skill levels, knowledge, and abilities
- Must be available to provide on-call coverage for liver transplant procedures
Desired Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in a science-related field preferred
- Experience with transplant procedures and organ preservation
- Experience in other medical fields (e.g., LPN, EMT)
