Operating Engineer II

Job Summary
The Operating Engineer II is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all Detroit Service Center equipment and systems. Key responsibilities include operating and maintaining HVAC systems, emergency power generation systems, and providing emergency service response. The role requires proficiency in diagnostics and maintenance of facility refrigeration equipment, electrical control systems, and maintaining records of operational activities. The position demands a high school diploma or equivalent, relevant licenses, and a minimum of one year of BAS operational experience.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or GED equivalent
- Completion of BCBSM Service Center Systems and Jefferson Facility Systems Qualification Guidelines within specified time frames
- A minimum of one (1) year DDC/BAS operation and maintenance experience
- A minimum of two (2) years operational experience in a comparable facility
- City of Detroit First Class Refrigeration Operators License
- EPA Refrigerant Recovery Certificate
- Valid Michigan Driver’s License
Desired Qualifications
- Boiler Operations and Refrigeration / Electrical / Mechanical service licensing
Additional Requirements
- Must be able to work any shift, weekends and holidays
- Must not leave Post of Duty until properly relieved by competent, qualified, licensed personnel
- Must be aware of all activities that may adversely impact the facility environment or the health and safety of its occupants
