Job Summary
Chilled Water Plant Operator at DTE in Detroit, MI, responsible for safe, efficient operation of a large-scale central chilled water plant. Operates and maintains high-pressure York YK centrifugal chillers (14,000 tons total), shell-and-tube heat exchangers (2,000 tons), river-water and condenser-water systems, pumping equipment, electrical substations, and steam-related auxiliary systems. Performs monitoring, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and documentation to ensure optimal plant performance and regulatory compliance. Daily rounds include tracking chiller data, system flows and temperatures, kW usage, water chemistry, and safety checks. Qualifications include a High School diploma or equivalent, First Class Refrigeration License, 5+ years in utility complex operations, and shift work.
