Opening Carding Technician

Job Summary
Maintain smooth operation of machinery in the opening/carding department by conducting regular patrols, inspecting for quality and mechanical issues, and performing corrective actions. Diagnose and repair machinery breakdowns promptly, log downtime, and escalate complex problems to appropriate personnel. Perform proper removal of chokes and waste off shafts, make card changes, and handle non-conforming materials. Use required hand tools, gauges, and equipment including sky jacks, forklifts, and pull cats to address safety hazards, contamination, or abnormal noises. Communicate with outgoing technicians regarding ongoing issues and adhere to safety protocols, quality standards, and environmental responsibilities.
Required Qualifications
- Must be capable of climbing and using ladders up to 14' high
- Standing and walking 10 to 11 hours per shift
- Lifting up to 50 lbs. and over with help
- Must be able to reach into areas on the machine to make repairs and use required hand tools and gauges
- Push a tool cart with the required tools and supplies to make minor repairs using 10-15lbs push force
- Use sky jack and forklift
- Operate Lift Truck
- Operate Sky Jack
- Operate Pull Cat
- Read
- Recognize all colors
- Competency/Aptitude Testing
- Ability to sit down 10% of day
- Ability to move throughout plant
- Lifting: up to 50 lbs. and over with assistance 25% of day
- Ability to walk upstairs, climbing and using ladders 35% of day
- Push/Pull/Reach: 10 to 15 lbs. force to push. Reach up to 72"
- Bending: Ability to pick up objects from the floor 25% of day
- Visual Acuity: Read identification labels, complete required forms 100% of day
- Cognitive: Alert. Able to make decisions, reason, and understand information. 100% of day
- Ability to work in cotton dust environment. Meet cotton pulmonary function requirements 100% of day
- Weekends and holidays are scheduled depending on business demands
- Shift: 11 PM – 7 AM
