Job Summary
Teach undergraduate courses in African American Studies history, law, policy, and social movements while developing curriculum that fits the department's framework. Maintain an active research agenda in areas such as Black social movements or political thought and mentor students through advising and collaborative, community-based learning. Contribute to departmental leadership, academic programming, and faculty mentorship, potentially assuming Department Chair duties for established scholars. Balance teaching, research, and service within a 40% research, 40% teaching, and 20% service model on a two-year rotation.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Africana/Black Studies or a closely related field
- experience teaching lower- and upper-division courses in African American Studies
- experience in or demonstrated capacity for departmental leadership, academic programming, curriculum development, and mentorship of faculty colleagues and students
- expertise in teaching and research in the discipline of African American Studies
- experience in or demonstrated capacity for departmental leadership, academic programming, curriculum development, and mentorship of faculty colleagues and students
Desired Qualifications
- associate or full professors
- PhDs in hand by July 2027
