Job Summary
Lead on daily engagement with journalists and drafting press releases on behalf of the Police and Crime Commissioner to appear on mainstream and digital platforms; manage media enquiries; develop and maintain relationships with journalists and Kent Police Press Office; support the PCC in national roles focusing on workforce, victims, and Blue Light Commercial; contribute to delivery of the OPCC’s strategic communications plan; work with the External Engagement Officer and Communications Officer; role involves autonomy in promoting the PCC’s work, with hybrid working and occasional travel, evening/weekend hours, and vetting requirements. Based at Kent Police HQ in Maidstone with home-based days and travel as needed; secondment/fixed-term until 31 March 2028.
Required Qualifications
- minimum of four years’ hands-on experience of working with the media
- strong understanding of building relationships and delivering results
- experience of building strong constructive relationships with journalists
