Job Summary
Work with students to reinforce learning of materials and skills initially introduced by the classroom teacher. Meet and assist the teacher in developing special strategies for reinforcing materials based on individual student needs, interests, and abilities. Carry out classroom instructional support and activities as directed, while maintaining a safe and orderly environment conducive to student learning. Alert the teacher or administrator to any problems or special information regarding individual students. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, teachers, and administration. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor or Associate degree from an accredited college or university
- Work Keys test passed prior to June 1, 2017
- ETS Paraprofessional Assessment with a passing score of 460 (for those hired after June 1, 2017)
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts
- Ability to compute percentages and to interpret graphs
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Personal computer skills
- Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the school community
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
- Ability to traverse about school campus and lead students to safety in case of emergency
- Ability to push or lift up to 50 lbs
- Close vision to read handwritten or typed material
- Ability to adjust focus
- Ability to work with the public and other staff
- Ability to meet multiple demands from several people
- Regular and reliable attendance and punctuality
