Job Summary
Supports the teacher and student in a one-on-one or small-group setting for students with visual impairments, including assistance with access to instructional materials in Braille or other tactile formats. Provides direct support for academic tasks, helps implement reading, writing, math, spelling, and life skills activities, and assists in managing student behavior using CPI-based behavior plans. Maintains confidentiality and participates in professional development. Communicates with staff, students, and the community as needed. Requires high school diploma or equivalent and experience working with children, with a focus on special education needs; training in Braille fundamentals and strategies may be required based on student assignment.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with children
- Experience working with special education students (preferred)
- Basic knowledge of Braille or willingness to learn Braille (required based on student assignment, preferred)
- Good communication skills
- Ability to adapt to various teaching skills
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
