Oncology Transportation Coordinator/Dispatcher (Part Time)

Job Summary

Review incoming oncology transportation referrals for completeness, accuracy, and eligibility for the STAR oncology transport program. Coordinate with social work, patient navigation, and clinical teams to clarify needs and assess patient resources, including insurance coverage and public transportation options. Schedule and dispatch STAR drivers in accordance with appointment times, operational capacity, and geographic constraints, adjusting schedules for cancellations or urgent needs. Document transportation determinations and resource utilization accurately while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to safety policies. Serve as a central point of contact for oncology offices to guide them on appropriate transportation pathways.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch
  • Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation
  • Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far, color, peripheral vision and monotony
  • Occasionally lift up to 20 lbs
  • Occasionally carry up to 15 lbs
  • Must be able to sit 8 hours per day; 3 hours at a time
  • Must be able to stand up to 1 hour per day; 30 minutes at a time
  • Must be able to walk up to 2 hours per day; 20 minutes at a time
  • Must be able to continuously finger and handle for data entry, typing, etc.
  • Must be able to occasionally twist and turn
  • Must be able to frequently stoop, bend, or reach above shoulder level to retrieve files
  • Must comply with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code
  • Must maintain confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information
  • Must comply with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follow appropriate reporting requirements
  • Must demonstrate competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated
  • Must demonstrate Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety
  • Must demonstrate financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare coordination, transportation services, dispatching, or patient support roles
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary oncology and social work teams
  • Proficiency in computer systems and scheduling/communication platforms
