Job Summary
Process all release of information (ROI) requests by retrieving patient medical charts, scanning records, and validating authorizations in accordance with company policy, legal guidelines, and HIPAA regulations. Perform quality checks to ensure accuracy, confidentiality, and correct billing while maintaining equipment in excellent working condition. Deliver outstanding customer service via mail, telephone, fax, online tools, or email by being attentive, respectful, and responsive to client needs. Order paper records from storage vendors, scan them upon arrival, and ensure timely return to the storage company. Maintain a clean, professional appearance and orderly work area, ensuring files are properly stored before leaving. Comply with state laws, fee structures, and client/site policies, including reporting unethical behavior and maintaining annual HIPAA certification. Work within assigned scope to prevent backlogs and accept additional assignments as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in a medical records department or similar setting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to use fax, copier, scanning machine
- Strong documentation, communication, and customer service skills
- Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently or as part of a team
- Proven ability to maintain productivity, utilization and quality performance standards
- Local to Newport News, VA!
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
- Physical capacity to lift and carry 25 lbs.
- Manual dexterity is sufficient for long periods of typing, writing, and handling documents
- Visual acuity to read documents and use a computer monitor
- Clear speaking and hearing ability for communication
- Adequate hand-eye coordination and sensory abilities for job-related tasks
- Maintain current HIPAA certification annually
