On-Call Site Assistant - ARCHES

Job Summary

Support daily sheltering operations at ARCHES Project sites in Polk and Marion counties through cleaning, laundry, meal preparation, and client engagement. Manage incoming and outgoing mail, facilitate access to computers and guest laundry, and assist clients with resource navigation. Enter HMIS data, monitor facility safety, and apply de-escalation techniques for client incidents. Work exclusively in an on-call capacity up to 19 hours per week, including early morning, evening, overnight, and same-day call-outs. Maintain appropriate boundaries while collaborating with staff, volunteers, and guests in close quarters with frequent interruptions.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Two years of work experience in a public or social services role
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Basic Life Support/First Aid Certification
  • Food Handler's Card or ability to obtain within 30 days
  • Driver Qualification Status
  • Proof of current auto insurance
  • Specific vision abilities
  • Ability to hear and speak
  • Ability to lift and/or move 25 pounds
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Manual dexterity for handling personal items, food, clothing, sacks, carts and use of computers and written in-take processing
  • Ability to accept on-call work, frequently with short notice
  • Ability to collaborate with staff, volunteers and guests
  • Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with clients and coworkers
  • Ability to apply crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques
  • Ability to regulate emotions during interactions with escalated clients and staff
  • Ability to regulate emotions and handle pressure of frequent demands for attention, time and work tasks
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work in close quarters with a public client population experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders, and/or severe and persistent mental illness
  • Ability to work in an environment with exposure to trash and potential biohazards
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor work environments with frequent interruptions, demands, and noise
  • Ability to perform cleaning, janitorial, and laundry tasks
  • Ability to complete various kitchen tasks, including cooking meals
  • Ability to answer the telephone
  • Ability to monitor client and facility safety
  • Ability to follow up to services
  • Ability to assist with meal preparation and distribution
  • Ability to facilitate access to guest laundry and computers
  • Ability to open and distribute incoming mail
  • Ability to handle outgoing mail
  • Ability to perform HMIS data entry for clients
  • Ability to follow up with clients
  • Ability to assist clients with navigation to resources
  • Ability to perform general data entry
  • Ability to attend and engage in required annual trainings
  • Ability to work in early morning, evening and nights, including overnight shifts
  • Ability to work on-site
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive MWVCAA background screening
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screenings

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of/or experience working with the homeless, vulnerable, or at-risk populations
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office (including Outlook), videoconferencing platforms, and web tools
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills, in both written and oral form
  • Demonstrates tact, diplomacy and empathy when communicating formally and informally with clients, staff and program partners
