On-call Remediation Heavy Equipment Operator

Job Summary

Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently for environmental remediation, emergency response, civil construction, and disaster recovery projects across the United States. Perform excavation, grading, backfilling, loading, and material handling while conducting pre-trip, post-trip, and daily equipment inspections. Safely work around underground and overhead utilities, read project plans, and perform basic preventive maintenance. Identify safety hazards, report incidents, and comply with OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations. Support emergency mobilizations and assist field personnel as needed. Assignments may require extensive travel, weekend work, holidays, and overtime.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to travel extensively throughout the United States
  • Ability to pass company-required background checks, drug screenings, and medical evaluations where applicable
  • Ability to work varying schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime
  • Ability to safely operate equipment at the demonstrated skill level assigned
  • Strong commitment to safety and regulatory compliance
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing project conditions
  • Ability to travel extensively and work away from home for prolonged periods
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Effective verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work successfully in diverse environments and weather conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to climb into and out of heavy equipment regularly
  • Ability to work in hot, cold, wet, dusty, and physically demanding environments
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods
  • Ability to work shifts that may exceed 8 hours during project deployments

Desired Qualifications

  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification
  • CDL Class A or B
  • First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Equipment-specific certifications
  • Experience in environmental remediation, construction, demolition, industrial services, or disaster response
  • GPS machine control experience
  • Excavation and trenching experience
  • DOT medical certification
