Job Summary
Provide skilled nursing interventions and supportive care in patient homes on weekends, evenings, nights, and holidays while on call. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the nursing process for home-based clients, initiating communication with physicians to coordinate optimal hospice care. Monitor physical care, instruct caregivers on comfort measures, and respond to medical or emotional crises, including attending deaths and pronouncing death as appropriate. Maintain accurate electronic medical records, complete admission processes, and triage patient needs regarding pain, end-of-life issues, and death. Remain available by pager or cell phone at all times to respond to care needs regardless of current assignment, while adhering to organizational policies and participating in quality improvement programs.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Minimum of two years of nursing experience
- Minimum of one year in hospice or home health
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Arkansas
- Must be able to work rotating schedule 7 out of 14 days in a pay period
- Valid Arkansas driver's license
- Car
- Car insurance
- Knowledge of palliative care with emphasis on symptom control associated with terminal illness
- Knowledge of the holistic approach toward patient care and the nursing process as it applies to hospice patients and families
- Knowledge and acceptance of hospice philosophy and principles of care
- Skill in organizing and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines
- Ability to recognize both positive and negative aspects of death and grief
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and other customers
- Ability to follow basic safety policies and procedures
- Ability to use good judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information
- Ability to work as a team player
- Ability to demonstrate tact, resourcefulness, patience and dedication
- Ability to accept direction and adhere to policies and procedures
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness
- Ability to concentrate for long periods of time
