Job Summary
Provide crisis support, maintain client records in the Mustimuhw database, and oversee household supervision including meal preparation, cleaning, and inventory management. Assist clients with activities of daily living such as shopping, banking, and medical appointments while transporting them to appointments as needed. Teach life skills, facilitate social and recreational activities, and ensure safe medication storage per regulatory standards. This on-call position requires flexibility for evening and weekend hours. A valid Class 5 driver's license and commitment to Sq'éwqel values are essential.
Required Qualifications
- Initial and ongoing employment is subject to submission of a clear Criminal Record Review Program Check to ensure the safety and trust of the communities we serve. This check will be conducted every five years.
- Initial and ongoing commitment to the values and guidelines of Sq'éwqel (Seabird Island Band), including our policies, procedures, standards of practice, and laws, is essential.
- Must possess a valid class 5 driver's license and have access to safe and reliable transportation, insured for community-based use, to effectively transport clients, students, or children.
- Flexibility in working hours may be required, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate the needs and schedules of clients and community needs.
- Formal education or training in social services, health care aid, mental health, addictions, or a related field.
- Other forms of post-secondary education and training, including teachings from Elders and Knowledge Keepers, will be considered.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience working within Indigenous communities, focusing on addictions and mental health.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities and understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and contemporary issues.
- Food safe Level 1 is required.
- Current First Aid Certification.
- Mental Health First Aid, Naloxone, Trauma Informed training.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Capacity to communicate and uphold clients' rules, duties, and regulation in a polite but assertive manner.

- Experience working with Indigenous clients in crisis situations.
- Experience working within Indigenous communities and applying culturally safe practices.
- Understanding of intergenerational trauma and its impacts on Indigenous peoples and communities.
