Job Summary
Conduct full range of paleontological tasks for mitigation projects statewide in California, including inventory, research, literature reviews, field surveys, excavations, stratigraphic column preparation, and fossil processing. Prepare data analysis, reports, and field notes while collaborating with construction crews and multi-disciplinary teams. Maintain proficiency with tablets and office software, adhering to specific protocols and social media restrictions. This on-call role requires a valid driver's license, own vehicle, and ability to work independently in inclement weather carrying up to 40 pounds of equipment. Candidates must hold a BA/BS in Geology, Biology, or Archaeology with paleo training. Compensation ranges from $25 to $33/hr DOE with eligibility for telehealth, dental, and life insurance after 60 days.
Required Qualifications
- BA/BS in Geology, Biology or a closely related field or BA in archaeology with paleo training
- Competency in field and laboratory work
- Ability to conduct field work for long hours, in possible inclement weather conditions and the ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds
- Valid driver's license
- Good driving record
- Own vehicle
- Confidence in the construction environment
- Proficiency in use of tablets and standard office software
- Excellent field notes
- Ability to work independently with a diverse, multi-disciplinary team
- Self-motivated with strong initiative
- Availability to travel
