Job Summary

Head Cook at YMCA of the East Bay oversees central kitchen operations, supervising the Assistant Cook and Nutrition Assistants, planning and preparing CACFP-compliant daily meals, ensuring food safety and sanitation, maintaining records and inventories, and coordinating with program sites. Responsibilities include following Head Start and CACFP guidelines, documenting substitutions, ordering supplies, managing FIFO inventory, receiving vendor deliveries, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, logs for temperatures, and participating in required trainings and staff meetings; promotes respectful, positive interactions with children, families, and staff; provides feedback on menus and operations; and performs additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Five (5) years of cooking experience
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience
  • Two (2) years of experience in early childhood settings preferred
  • Valid California Driver’s License
  • Pass physical examination and TB clearance
  • Immunizations (Measles and Pertussis)
  • Live Scan fingerprint clearance and criminal record clearance
  • Current Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
