On-Call Certified Animal Safety Representative (Pennsylvania)

Job Summary
Monitor animal action in filmed media, educate personnel on humane matters, and ensure the safety and welfare of animal performers across motion picture, television, and commercial locations. Document housing conditions, scene execution, and safety precautions through detailed reporting to verify "No Animals Were Harmed®" certification eligibility. Liaise with production executives, trainers, and local enforcement agencies regarding animal welfare issues and dangerous stunts. Work 10-12 hour days on location in varying weather conditions, often on short notice, with local, national, and international travel required. Complete mandatory on-set training during probation.
Required Qualifications
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)
- Registered/Licensed/Certified Veterinary Technician (RVT/LVT/CVT)
- B.S. in Animal Science or related field from an accredited school, or equivalent combination of experience and education
- Successful completion of the American Humane Society Certified Animal Safety Representative Training Course
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to provide own transportation to production location
- Excellent vision from 6 meters or more
- Commitment to animal welfare
- Broad knowledge and familiarity with range of animals, from horses to snakes and spiders, fish, dogs, birds, goats and cats
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; active listening
- Adept at building collaborative relationships and demonstrating diplomacy
- Adept at using computer for email and writing reports
- Must be able to analyze situations and make recommendations within a short period
- Candidates with horse related experience
- Candidates with a willingness to travel
- Candidates with close proximity to a major airport
- Local, national and/or international travel will be required on-call, sometimes on short notice
- Monitoring of production work can occur at any time of day or night
- Production days may be 10 to 12 hours
- Ability to work outdoors in rough terrain
- Ability to work in a variety of climatic conditions
- Walking, climbing, balancing and standing while on location during the production of motion pictures
- Lifting on occasion 10 kg or more
- Reaching, handling, stooping and bending when observing and recording related duties
- Work effectively without direct supervision in the field
- Detail-oriented and organized
- Excellent judgment
