On-Call Certified Animal Safety Representative (International)

Job Summary
Monitor animal action on motion picture, television, and commercial sets to ensure humane treatment, document housing and care standards, and advise on safety issues per AH Guidelines. Educate film personnel in humane matters, liaise with production executives, trainers, and local enforcement agencies, and conduct research on species-specific requirements when needed. Submit timely, detailed reports on animal action, safety precautions, and welfare outcomes to support post-production certification reviews. Work 10–12 hour days with flexible schedules, including on-call rotations for domestic and international locations, often requiring travel on short notice.
Required Qualifications
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)
- Registered/Licensed/Certified Veterinary Technician (RVT/LVT/CVT)
- B.S. in Animal Science or related field from an accredited school, or equivalent combination of experience and education
- Successful completion of the American Humane Society Certified Animal Safety Representative Training Course
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to provide own transportation to production location
- Excellent vision from 6 meters or more
- Commitment to animal welfare
- Broad knowledge and familiarity with range of animals, from horses to snakes and spiders, fish, dogs, birds, goats and cats
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; active listening
- Adept at building collaborative relationships and demonstrating diplomacy
- Adept at using computer for email and writing reports
- Must be able to analyze situations and make recommendations within a short period
- Ability to work outdoors in rough terrain
- Ability to work in a variety of climatic conditions
- Ability to work in extreme cold, extreme heat, wet and/or humid weather conditions
- Ability to walk, climb, balance and stand while on location during the production of motion pictures
- Ability to lift on occasion 10 kg or more
- Ability to reach, handle, stoop and bend when observing and recording related duties
- Willingness to travel
- Close proximity to a major airport
- Must be available for travel to various locations throughout the country on an as needed basis
- International travel requiring a passport may be requested at times
- Work assignments are often given on short notice
- Production days may be 10-12 hours
- Monitoring of production work can occur at any time of day or night
- Starting and ending times vary based on production schedule
