Job Summary
Conduct intensive pedestrian cultural resources inventories, probe, shovel test, and lead data recovery excavations across the Great Basin region. Coordinate fieldwork, manage field data, and draft monitoring reports, testing logs, and technical reports. Isolate field documentation, evaluate NRHP eligibility, and review cultural resource documents for state and federal agencies. Survey an average of 50 acres per day while navigating 4WD vehicles in moderate weather conditions. Work independently as a Field Director or Principal Investigator, with some outside travel and remote office support required.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in archaeology, anthropology, or closely related field
- Completion of a field school
- Minimum of 4 years of professional experience, with at least 2 years specifically in a Field Director role
- Permitted or qualified for agency permitting based on the SOI Professional Qualification Standards statewide in Utah
- Permitted or permittable on BLM lands statewide in Utah
- Proficient in prehistoric and/or historic archaeology statewide in Utah
- Proficient in documenting archaeological sites and isolates statewide in Utah
- Use hand-held field technology (i.e., ArcGIS phone/tablet application paired with sub-meter GPS receivers)
- Survey an average of 50 acres/8 miles per day (not including resource documentation)
- carry personal health and safety equipment (i.e., personal water, sunscreen, etc.)
- Work in moderate weather conditions (fluctuating temperatures and inclement weather, including rain and snow)
- Ability to follow instruction and to make adjustments when provided feedback
- Organized, motivated, thorough, accurate, dependable, and trustworthy
- Excellent navigational skills (GPS and compass) and ability to navigate and drive 4WD vehicles
- Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees and vendors
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings
- Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Wright's and Eocene Environmental Group's culture of safety and employee ownership
- Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintains knowledge of and follows all company policies and procedures
Desired Qualifications
- Preferred 6 -8 years of professional archaeological experience
- Proficiency using phone or tablets to document cultural resources
- Proficiency with sub-meter GPS receiver
- Proficiency with ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123 applications (for phone or tablet)
- Previous NHPA, NEPA, FERC, and/or other cultural or environmental trainings
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Strong communication and organization skills
- Ability to evaluate resources for NRHP-eligibility
- Authored multiple archaeological site forms and inventory reports
- Authored a master's degree thesis
- Prior experience supporting state and federal agencies
- Prior experience supporting utility compliance inspection projects
