Job Summary
On Board Training Superintendent responsible for designing, coordinating and delivering onboard training programs to enhance seafarer competence, safety culture and operational performance. Acts as the primary bridge between ship and shore for training delivery, competency assessment and development of structured learning pathways across the fleet. Develop, implement and maintain the company’s onboard training strategy and annual training plans; design and update syllabi, lesson plans and assessment criteria for bridge, engine and catering departments; coordinate onboard visits, drills and workshops with hands-on coaching. Assess crew competence through observation and performance reviews; maintain training records and recommend development plans. Liaise with Fleet and Technical Superintendents, crewing, HSQE and clients to identify gaps and priority interventions. Evaluate training effectiveness, drive continuous improvement, ensure training materials and e-learning are current and compliant with ISM/ISO and other standards. Support incident investigations by reviewing training records and rooting actions in human factors. Prepare regular training reports and present recommendations to senior management and clients. Promote a positive safety and learning culture across the fleet and contribute to company-wide initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a maritime-related discipline
- seafaring qualification (e.g. Chief Engineer)
- minimum 1–5 years’ seagoing experience as a sailing Master on Tanker Vessel or shore-based training/competency role
- instructor/trainer qualifications (e.g. Train the Trainer) and assessor certification desirable
