Job Summary

Develop, implement, and maintain Occupational Health and Safety policies, programs, and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable legislation and organizational standards. Conduct workplace inspections, hazard assessments, risk analyses, and safety audits to identify hazards and mitigate risks. Lead investigations of workplace incidents, accidents, injuries, and near-misses to identify root causes and implement preventative measures. Provide expert advice to leaders, supervisors, and Joint Health and Safety Committees on OHS legislation, compliance requirements, and safe work practices. Monitor OHS performance metrics, analyze trends, and prepare reports for senior leadership. Develop and deliver training programs, safety meetings, and educational materials. Collaborate with the HR team on return to work and accommodation matters. Maintain accurate records of claims and accommodations. This role reports to the Director of Human Resources and involves working within the City of Cranbrook's HR department to foster a culture of safety and accountability.

Required Qualifications

  • Four (4) year Degree in a relevant field such as Recreation Management, Kinesiology, Leisure Studies, Public Administration, Business Administration, Human Resources, etc.
  • Valid Class five (5) Driver's Licence
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a similar OHS role, preferably in unionized, municipal and/or public sector environments
  • Strong knowledge of OHS legislation, regulations, and best practices
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and experience with OHS and HRIS software
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism
  • Ability to travel within the City of Cranbrook
  • A satisfactory Police Information Check is required

Desired Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CRSP, CPHR, or CDMP)
