Job Summary
Verbatim reporting and transcription for court proceedings with increasing complexity, including real-time transcription for District Court in the 4th Judicial District. Court Reporter I/II responsibilities include providing verbatim official court records, operating electronic recording equipment, logging and distributing transcripts, maintaining court records, and supporting advancement to Court Reporter I with online education reimbursement. For stenographic reporters, equipment and software support are provided (laptop, steno machine, Eclipse or Case CATalyst). For digital reporters, recording system and software are provided (audio recording, Liberty Recorder). Travel may be required. Advancement opportunities exist; responsibilities include ensuring accurate transcription, certification compliance, and knowledge of court rules and procedures. Knowledge of JUSTICE and DOCKET, plus proficiency in note taking, logging, and legal terminology, are essential. Bilingual English and Spanish preferred but not required. The State emphasizes diversity and inclusion in the workforce.
Required Qualifications
- District Court Courtroom Clerk: High School graduation or equivalent and 2 years of courtroom clerk experience
- Court Reporter I: demonstrate professional competence as defined in Nebraska Supreme Court Rules Relating to Court Reporting Personnel §1-204(A)(2) and § 1-204(B) or (C)
- Court Reporter II: demonstrate professional competence as defined in Nebraska Supreme Court Rules Relating to Court Reporting Personnel §1-204(A)(2) and § 1-204(B) be certified as a Certified Realtime Reporter (CRR), through the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) or as a Federal Certified Realtime Reporter (FCRR) or equivalent.
