Job Summary
Officer 1, Security patrols school district facilities on foot or by cart to protect personnel, equipment, buildings, and grounds; responds to calls for service including trespassers or disturbances; prepares records and offense reports; inspects for fire/safety hazards; enforces traffic and parking regulations; may perform investigations and assist local law enforcement; requires Florida security licenses or eligibility, school guardian certificate or LEO certification, police academy or CPP substitute, and ability to meet physical and background requirements; emphasizes attendance, professionalism, safety procedures, and written/verbal communication; physical demands include standing, walking, lifting up to 70 lbs., and ability to work variable shifts including weekends and holidays; work environment is in a school district setting with compliance to district equal opportunity policies and veteran/spouse preference in Florida.
Required Qualifications
- Current Florida D and G Security license or eligibility to obtain these licenses prior to being hired
- either (1) issuance and continued maintenance of a school guardian certificate by the Hillsborough County Sheriff pursuant to section 30.15(1)(k), Florida Statutes or (2) qualify as a “Law Enforcement Officer” pursuant to section 943.10, Florida Statutes and be certified by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission within the Department of Law Enforcement
- Satisfactory completion of a recognized police academy, or satisfactory US military service, or certification as an ASIS Certified Protection Professional (CPP) may substitute for the one year of experience
- Language skills: reads and interprets safety rules, writes routine reports and correspondence, speaks effectively before groups
- Mathematical skills: basic arithmetic with money
- Computer skills: Microsoft Office
- PHYSICAL DEMANDS: ability to stand, walk, run, lift up to 70 lbs., etc.
- No criminal history for felony convictions etc. (as described in note under requirements)
- Compliance with department regulations concerning physical fitness, psychological testing, background checks, bearing of firearms
