Job Summary
Collect Massachusetts-specific hydrogeological and contaminated site data for modeling fate and transport of organic contaminants in soils and groundwater. Review site assessment reports to gather relevant information, enter data into Excel spreadsheets for statistical analysis, and input findings into SESOIL and AT123D models to predict leaching of organic contaminants such as PFAS from unsaturated soils to groundwater. Model outputs will support the derivation of screening values in residuals and soil cleanup standards. This remote Winter Program 2023 internship, running January through April, requires familiarity with environmental science, chemistry, geology, and basic statistics, along with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and a Windows environment.
Required Qualifications
- Be enrolled in a degree program
- Have received their degree within one year of their date of graduation date
- Submit a cover letter, application, and resume
- Be able to commute to MassDEP Massachusetts locations
Desired Qualifications
- Familiar with environmental science, chemistry, geology, and basic statistics
- Good general computer skills
- Comfortable in a Microsoft Windows environment
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel software for data entry
