Job Summary
Office Assistant 3 supports advanced administrative and operational tasks within a high-volume surgical pathology environment, including receipt, accessioning, and tracking of specimens, ensuring documentation and regulatory compliance, coordinating outreach with internal departments and external submitting institutions, and providing cross-coverage in laboratory areas. Key duties involve high-volume case intake, verifying patient identifiers, entering demographic data into LIS, preliminary case review, preparing slides and materials for routing, inventory management of slides/blocks, and facilitating communication between pathology teams and submitting institutions while maintaining HIPAA compliance and quality standards.
Required Qualifications
- Four years of related work experience, two of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or two years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Demonstrated knowledge of human anatomy, pathology, and medical terminology; ability to interpret clinical documentation and specimen-related information.
- Experience in a clinical laboratory, pathology department, or healthcare environment with specimen accessioning workflows and case management processes.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle protected patient information per HIPAA.
