Job Summary
Off-Track Railroad Vegetation Applicator responsible for mixing/loading spray trucks with water and approved chemical solutions, applying herbicides to off-track railroad rights-of-way using hose-reel spray systems, performing light vegetation management including weed eating and chainsaw work, managing spray hose across uneven terrain, driving between job sites, participating in daily briefings, completing end-of-day paperwork, and complying with railroad safety and environmental regulations; requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, valid driver’s license with clean history, ability to pass drug screens and background checks, willingness to travel 4–6 weeks, and flexibility with schedule. Training is provided in vegetation identification, chemical usage, safety procedures, and equipment operation/maintenance; compensation ranges from $18-$20 per hour plus benefits.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license with a minimum of 5 years of clean driving history
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, DOT physical, and federal background check required for railroad property access
- Ability to travel and work away from home for 4–6 weeks at a time (DCS provides hotel accommodations and per diem)
- Flexibility for typical schedule Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM, with 10–12-hour shifts; may require weekends/nights/extended hours based on workload and weather
