Job Summary
The Police Officer provides safety and police functions at BSMH facilities, participating in investigations and responding to emergencies. Responsibilities include protecting patients, visitors, and employees, conducting patrols, enforcing policies, monitoring CCTV, intervening in conflicts, and documenting all activities. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, relevant certifications, and be a sworn law enforcement officer in the corresponding facility county. Preferred qualifications include an Associate's degree and experience in security or law enforcement.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED (required)
- Valid driver’s license (required)
- BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (required within 6 months of hire)
- Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy Certification (required in Ohio within 6 months of hire)
- Certified completion of an approved police training academy and be a sworn law enforcement officer with police powers in the corresponding facility county
- Non-violent crisis intervention training (required within 6 months of hire)
- Firearms qualifications; successfully pass bi-annual firearms qualifications
Desired Qualifications
- Associate's degree (preferred)
- 1-3 years of security, law enforcement, or military experience (preferred)
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use, maintenance, and safety protocols for defensive tools and restraint equipment
- Basic skills using Microsoft Word
- Effective communication, active listening, empathy, and conflict resolution
