Job Summary
Probate attorney (Of Counsel) in Albuquerque, NM for 10–15 hours/week. Provide probate and estate administration counsel, advise executors and trustees, prepare pleadings and petitions, represent clients in probate court hearings, guardianships, and conservatorships, and ensure compliance with New Mexico laws. Responsibilities include managing probate and estate matters from inception to resolution, conducting legal research, drafting memoranda, collaborating with colleagues, and maintaining strong client relationships while offering flexible, part-time engagement. Requires a J.D., active NM State Bar license, and 5+ years of probate/estate experience with excellent writing, negotiation, and advocacy skills, plus the ability to work independently and deliver client-focused service.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Active license and good standing with the New Mexico State Bar, or ability to obtain admission promptly
- Minimum of 5+ years of probate, estate administration, trust administration, or related legal experience
- Strong knowledge of New Mexico probate laws and court procedures
- Experience handling contested and uncontested probate matters
- Excellent legal writing, analytical, negotiation, and advocacy skills
- Ability to manage cases independently with minimal supervision
- Exceptional interpersonal and client relationship management skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Preferred qualifications: established probate or estate planning practice; experience with trust litigation, guardianships, and conservatorships; existing referral network; portable book of business a plus
