Job Summary
Set up respiratory and positive airway pressure therapy equipment for post-acute patients ranging from neonatal to geriatric. Review and document patient information, educate patients and staff on treatment plans, and monitor compliance with therapy protocols. Coordinate overall respiratory care programs, communicate with physicians as a clinical resource, and adapt communication styles to specific patient populations. Participate in process improvement initiatives and resolve patient issues while maintaining knowledge of federal, state, and local compliance standards. Remain available for on-call patient needs and travel to patient homes to setup and monitor equipment.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree
- Graduate of an AMA-approved school of Respiratory Therapy
- Current license as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice
- Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
- BLS – Basic Life Support Certification through American Heart Association
- Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information
- Proficiency with Windows-style applications and keyboard
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process
- Knowledge of respiratory equipment
- Reliable transportation to travel to patient homes to setup/monitor respiratory equipment
- Ability to be on-call for patients needs
- Must be able to lift 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally
- Must be able to lift 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently
- Must be able to exert greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly
- Must be able to walk or stand to a significant degree
- Must be able to push and/or pull of arm or leg controls
- Must be able to work at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials
- Must be able to work in an environment with potential exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue
- Must be able to work with patients who have known or suspected communicable diseases
- Must be able to enter isolation rooms
- Must be able to handle occupational risk for exposure to all communicable diseases
- Must be able to handle occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste
- Must reside in and will work from Baton Rouge or eligible areas (excluding Colorado, California, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Washington, Washington D.C.)
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Allied Health or Related Field
- Experience with Positive Airway Pressure (PAP)
- Experience with other Respiratory Home Medical Equipment
