Job Summary

Perform initial evaluations, establish treatment plans with functional goals, and implement individualized programs using task-oriented activities to restore physical function for patients with upper extremity diagnoses. Fabricate custom or dispense non-custom orthotics to protect healing tissue and facilitate range of motion. Complete daily documentation including initial, progress, and discharge summaries while communicating regularly with physicians and team members to maximize client outcomes. Upgrade treatment goals and determine appropriate discharge timing. Assist with training and supervision of rehabilitation technicians, maintain and order occupational therapy supplies, and supervise Level I and II students or provide shadowing opportunities. Participate in ongoing continuing education and develop relationships with physicians to promote services through patient appointments and interoffice communication.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous Out-Patient Hand Therapy experience
  • Experience with custom orthotics/splinting
  • Ability to multitask and be a team player
  • Interest in working with all types of patients including athletes
  • Open and excited to learn new skills and grow as clinician
  • Be able to collaborate and build relationships with onsite and offsite physicians
  • Involvement in professional development and continuing education
  • Graduated from an accredited college or university
  • Illinois licensed
  • Ability to change body position frequently: sit, stand, stoop, bend, reach throughout their shift
  • Excellent eye hand coordination and ability to manipulate objects/materials for orthotic fabrication and functional activities or exercises
  • Ability to lift up to 20lbs bilaterally
  • Ability to assist in transferring clients from wheelchair to mat table
