Job Summary
Conduct occupational therapy support for K-12 students by evaluating functional and behavioral needs through standardized assessments, synthesizing results into comprehensive reports, and developing evidence-based intervention plans. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, educational personnel, parents, and community agencies to implement individual education plans and monitor progress toward IEP goals. Manage a caseload of 45 sessions weekly, ensuring mandate utilization exceeds 85% and completing required make-up sessions. Maintain treatment areas, equipment inventory, and confidential records while adhering to safety protocols and CPI procedures. Work Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 3:30pm in the Bronx, NY, supporting students aged 5-21 across the Gersh Autism network.
Required Qualifications
- Successfully completed and graduated from an accredited occupational therapy professional program recognized by NBCOT and have completed all fieldwork requirements
- State OTR/L Licensure in the state in which you were hired
- One year of experience as an occupational therapist
- Sensory knowledge
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to keep students safe from themselves and others and, in some cases, may need to implement CPI (therapeutic holds) procedures
- Must be able to remove oneself from potentially harmful situations and, in some cases, be able to lift a child
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and move throughout the workday
- Ability to lift (at least 50-65 pounds), assist, and/or physically support students, which may include lifting or guiding students of varying sizes
- Ability to physically intervene when required to ensure safety (per CPI training)
- Ability to remove oneself and/or others from unsafe situations quickly
- Ability to maintain attention and focus in a dynamic, high-stimulation environment
- Ability to multi-task and shift priorities quickly
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and decision-making, particularly in high-pressure or safety-sensitive situations
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and maintain professional relationships
- Ability to perform duties under stress, including during behavioral escalations
- Monday – Friday / 8:00am – 3:30 (once a week until 4 for a team meeting)
