Job Summary

Conduct comprehensive physical, psychosocial, and safety assessments to identify functional problems requiring intervention, then develop and document plans of care to promote optimum function and safety. Provide evaluation and treatment across acute care, nursing home, short-term rehabilitation, and outpatient settings while overseeing Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants and aides. Coordinate patient care with multi-disciplinary team members, manage supply usage and patient charges, and maintain current knowledge of insurance regulations and NYS licensure requirements. Operate therapy equipment including safe patient handling devices and exercise machines while adhering to Joint Commission standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited college or university
  • NYS License to practice OT, or a valid temporary permit as per NYSED licensing requirements
  • BLS CPR - within 6 months of date of hire
  • Maintains licensure by obtaining required CEUs as determined by NYS Practice Act
  • Adheres to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state and local requirements and Joint Commission (TJC) standards
  • Must be capable of understanding and carrying out prescribed therapy services as requested by physicians and/or mid-level providers
  • Excellent motor, hand, eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Ability to handle and operate therapy equipment, including but not limited to: safe patient handling equipment, exercise machines, and/or modalities
  • Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 lbs. for force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects
  • Occasional: balancing, climbing, crouching, lifting, pulling, pushing, stooping, fit testing
  • Frequent: typing/ clerical/ dexterity, grasping, kneeling, reaching, repetitive motion, seeing/ monitor/ computer use, standing, talking, visual acuity (color, depth, perception), walking
  • Constant: hearing
  • Occasional: bodily fluids/ bloodborne exposure
  • Occasional: extreme temperatures
  • Occasional Travel - The job may require travel from time- to-time, but not on a regular basis

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience as an Occupational Therapist prior to employment
