Occupational Therapist Assistant

Job Summary

Conduct occupational therapy treatment sessions, administering standardized tests and evaluating students on range of motion, muscle strength, and sensory systems. Coordinate multi-disciplinary strategies, adaptive equipment use, and transportation protocols for special needs students while training staff in intervention techniques. Prepare daily progress notes, Medicaid summaries, and IEP updates; maintain accurate case documentation and order adaptive equipment for individual student needs. Communicate evaluation results and student progress to parents, teachers, and medical professionals. Operate power wheelchairs, office equipment, and vehicles as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree as an Occupational Therapy Assistant from an school accredited school by the Commission of Accreditation of Therapy Education (CAPTE)
  • Experience providing occupational therapy services, preferably in an educational setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Current, valid certification by the S.C. Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners
  • Valid state driver's license
  • Ability to lift items needed to perform the functions of the job
  • Ability to sit, stand and walk for required periods of time
  • Ability to speak and hear
  • Close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception along with the ability to focus vision
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, using proper grammar and vocabulary
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers to handle objects and operate tools, technology equipment, computers, and/or controls
  • Regular and punctual attendance
  • Ability to work effectively with and respond to diverse cultures or backgrounds
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, and dress in a neat, clean and professional manner

Desired Qualifications

  • American Sign Language or Braille as acceptable forms of communication
