Job Summary
Occupational Health Nurse: Provide on-site clinical nursing care and case management for employees within an organization’s occupational health program. Responsibilities include nursing assessments and interventions within scope of practice, evaluating work-related injuries for fitness for duty, providing first aid and triage, issuing return-to-work clearances, conducting required screenings and credentialing, performing pre-employment and annual physicals, delivering health education, collaborating with client staff, and leading or participating in client-directed projects. Additional duties cover medical surveillance support, health assessments and tests, communicating fitness-for-work determinations to management, providing emergency response as needed, managing injury and illness case management, organizing independent medical examinations, promoting client wellness programs, maintaining clinical documentation, and handling administrative clinic tasks. Required qualifications include an active Indiana RN license, BLS certification, and a Bachelor’s degree in nursing; occupational health nursing certification is desirable. The role emphasizes knowledge of OSHA, FMLA, Workers’ Compensation, ergonomics, epidemiology, and safety regulations, plus strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work evening hours in Indianapolis on a short-term basis.
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license in the state of Indiana
- BLS Certification
- Bachelor's degree in nursing
- Certification in Occupational Health Nursing is desirable
- 3-5 years of nursing experience
- 2-5 years of occupational health nursing preferred
- Knowledge of anatomy & physiology, toxicology, health promotion, lifestyle risk factors, and ergonomics
- Certification in Hearing Conservation and Spirometry is desirable
- OSHA, FMLA, Workers Compensation knowledge
- epidemiology, safety, industrial hygiene, wellness, behavioral change theory
- Emotional intelligence
