Job Summary
Provide anesthesia care during labor, delivery, and the postpartum period for obstetric patients, including administration of epidurals, spinal blocks, and other regional techniques; monitor anesthesia levels during delivery; perform pre-operative assessments; supervise and teach medical students, residents, and fellows in clinical rotations and lectures; engage in research opportunities in obstetric anesthesia; participate in the development of an academic Obstetric Anesthesia Residency Program and collaborate with obstetric clinicians and maternal-fetal medicine physicians. The position offers an academic appointment at Virginia Tech with tenure-track potential at the rank of Clinical Assistant, Associate, or Professor based on qualifications and experience. The role requires strong knowledge of obstetric anesthesia techniques and medications, excellent communication, and the ability to work effectively in a team-based healthcare environment in a high-risk obstetric setting.
Required Qualifications
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
- ABA Board certification or Board eligibility in obstetric anesthesia
- Completion of ACGME-accredited Obstetric Anesthesia Fellowship
- Ability to provide anesthesia care during labor, delivery, and postpartum periods
- Strong teaching, mentoring, and supervision skills for medical students, residents, and fellows
- Commitment to academic medicine, teaching, and research activities
