Job Summary
Observability Platform Engineer leading Datadog strategy across cloud and on-prem environments. Owns the Datadog platform, architecting, building, and maintaining scalable observability solutions (logs, metrics, traces, SLOs, synthetic monitoring, and RUM) to improve reliability and reduce MTTR. Drives migration from OpenView to Datadog, develops instrumentation and dashboards, and automates via Datadog APIs, Terraform, and scripting (Python, PowerShell, Bash). Partners with application, SRE/DevOps, infrastructure, and security teams; champions Datadog adoption and standardization; integrates with ServiceNow for incident routing and escalation; supports cross-environment telemetry, APM, and full-stack visibility; promotes OpenTelemetry adoption and cost-effective scaling. Requires strong documentation, independent work style, and ability to translate complex observability concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- BS/BA in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years in Observability, APM, SRE, or Platform Engineering
- 2–3 years of hands-on, production-grade Datadog experience
- Deep expertise with Datadog core product suite (APM, Infrastructure Monitoring, Log Management, Synthetics, RUM, SLOs, Dashboards, Monitors, Alerts)
- Proficiency in Windows Server and Unix (Linux/Solaris) environments
- Strong scripting and automation skills (Python, PowerShell, Bash) with Datadog API/SDK and Terraform
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure and AWS) and ITSM integrations (e.g., Datadog → ServiceNow)
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Nice to Have: Datadog certifications, migration experience from OpenView/AppDynamics/Nagios, .NET instrumentation knowledge
