Job Summary

Conduct hourly patient rounds to obtain vital signs and perform scrub duties for obstetrical procedures including Cesarean sections and hysterectomies. Set up and prepare operating and delivery rooms, manage instrument and sponge counts, and ensure all equipment is cleaned, sterilized, and returned to original state. Restock supplies across labor and delivery areas, maintain physician preference files, and track inventory of instruments and patient care materials. Rotate stock by checking expiration dates and prepare supply orders for manager approval. Assist with birth certificate worksheet completion and transmittal to the state. Requires an Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology and certification within one year of hire.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology
  • Surgical Technologist certification within one year of hire
  • Working knowledge of sterile technique
  • Considerable knowledge of basic Labor and Delivery process
  • Considerable knowledge of surgical instruments and their proper use
  • Meets eligibility requirements to be commissioned as a Notary Public in the state of practice, if needed
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to handle stressful situations professionally
  • Ability to anticipate the needs of the team and physicians
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Considerable knowledge of Universal Precautions in handling blood and body fluids
  • Working knowledge of proper equipment use, delivery beds, C-section table and fetal monitor
  • Working knowledge of safe handling of sharps, cleaning supplies, and other chemicals
  • Demonstrates knowledge of procedures for protecting and maintaining security, confidentiality and integrity of employee, patient, family, organizational and other medical information
  • Understands and supports the commitment of Methodist Hospitals in adhering to federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations governing ethical business practices for healthcare providers
