Job Summary
Lead groups of scouts through the OASE program at The Summit Bechtel Reserve, instructing them on proper and safe trail building while monitoring their general safety and health. Support other OASE groups in the field when not assigned to a crew, and work with Summit leadership to address any issues that arise. Model the Scout Oath and Law in daily interactions, maintain a clean and safe work area, and perform additional duties assigned by SBR leadership. This weeklong experience requires standing, walking, and hiking up to 9 hours daily with the ability to lift up to 70 pounds. Candidates must be 21+, a member of the Order of the Arrow, and comfortable in remote settings for extended time periods.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum age: 21+
- Member of the Order of the Arrow
- Comfortable in remote settings for extended time periods
- Willing to become a registered Scouting America member (includes background screening)
- Ability to stand, walk, and hike up to 9 hours daily
- Ability to lift/move up to 70 pounds
- Complete the Annual Health and Medical Record, including height/weight guidelines
- Comfortable using Microsoft Teams for daily work-related communication
Desired Qualifications
- Trail building experience
- Ability to obtain Red Cross First Aid, Wilderness First Aid, and CPR Certifications (Training provided)
- High emotional intelligence (such as self/social awareness and team dynamics)
- Positive and cheerful attitude with a strong customer-service focus
- Adaptability in a fast-paced environment with ability to learn/develop hard and soft skills
- Ability to connect with individuals from diverse age groups, maturity, and backgrounds
