Job Summary
Conduct shift operations tasks including equipment start-up and shutdown while maintaining operating logs and performing routine chemical testing. Perform electrical and mechanical inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs; read gauges and meters to monitor plant performance. Assist in developing standard procedures for operations and maintenance, implement safe working habits, and identify hazards for corrective action. Operate plant fuel and limestone handling equipment and drive loaders and bulldozers as needed to fill in for Assistant Plant Operators. Become a system expert on assigned plant systems and qualify as a Control Room Operator or Maintenance Technician. Work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays, with overtime as required.
Required Qualifications
- multi-skilled in at least two of the following power plant disciplines: operations, mechanical maintenance, electrical maintenance, or instrumentation and controls
- capable of identifying mechanical, electrical, and I&C corrective action when appropriate
- fully proficient in at least one of the disciplines
- ability to operate the control board
- ability to perform complex mechanical maintenance
- ability to perform electrical duties
- ability to perform as an instrumentation and controls technician
- Ability to read, write and communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English
- Ability to perform basic mathematical computations
- one (1) year of experience in a power plant or material handling environment, or equivalent education and experience
- Ability to operate valves, switches, controls, keyboards, and other devices associated with power plant equipment
- Ability to use basic hand tools, portable electric and pneumatic tools
- Ability to observe hazards and avoid accidents by correctly anticipating the consequences of actions personally performed or performed by others
- Ability to work overtime, both scheduled and unscheduled
- Ability to work rotating shift work, including holidays, nights and weekends
- Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License
