Job Summary

Conduct nutrition screening, assessment, and counseling for low- and high-risk clients, including those with gestational diabetes, obesity, and premature infants. Implement nutrition care plans and monitor client progress toward goals. Assist in developing curricula, teaching group nutrition education classes, and evaluating education materials. Maintain documentation by charting dietary intake and updating electronic health records per program policies. May coordinate breastfeeding activities and manage equipment. Requires a bachelor's degree in nutrition, one year of counseling experience, and bilingual Spanish proficiency.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nutrition or a nutrition-related field with completion of core nutrition classes
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) Certificate
  • Minimum one year of individual nutrition counseling with adults, infants, children, prenatal and postpartum women
  • Oral and written bilingual Spanish language proficiency
  • Cultural knowledge
  • Knowledge of federal nutrition programs like WIC, SNAP, etc.
  • Knowledge of contemporary principles and practices of nutrition; interpretation and implementation of nutrition guidelines for infant, children, and pregnant and lactating women
  • Knowledge of contemporary principles and practices of nutrition; interpretation and implementation of nutrition guidelines for health promotion, disease prevention, and general healthy eating patterns (e.g., MyPlate, Harvard Healthy Plate, Dietary Guidelines for Americans)
  • Knowledge of nutritional value foods; meal planning and preparation that is culturally appropriate; safe food storage practices; and food costs
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and materials used in nutrition counseling, education, and screening
  • Ability to work independently as well as collectively on projects
  • Ability to work in interdisciplinary care teams
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge and/or experience with breastfeeding counseling techniques
  • Experience with Motivational Interviewing/Learner Center Education
  • CLC/ CLE/IBCLC
  • Experience with the State WIC computer program
