Job Summary
Conduct food demonstrations and samplings weekly across DMV sites, assist with workshops and field trips in the teaching kitchen, and support the development of nutrition education initiatives. Design and distribute educational materials, develop and test new recipes with nutrient analysis, and create recipe videos for the library. Conduct research for nutrition programming, administer surveys, and maintain the nutrition education closet. Assist with pantry partner outreach for the Healthy Pantry Initiative and track expenses. This 20-hour per week, six-month internship requires access to a car and availability for Saturdays. Reports to the Nutrition Education Specialist.
Required Qualifications
- Access to a car to travel throughout the DMV
- Highschool diploma/GED
- Proficiency with basic computer software programs (including MS Word)
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of a team
- Must be available to work on Saturdays
- Commitment to work for a six-month period
- Ability to lift/carry 30 pounds
- Ability to travel to our Lorton VA office and partner sites throughout the DMV
- Ability to work outside in variety of weather conditions
Desired Qualifications
- Nutrition-related knowledge/experience/background preferred
- Experience working with the target audience preferred
- Comfort with and interest in purchasing and preparing foods and reviewing recipes
- Experience in adult education or other relevant work experience preferred
