Nutrition Aide Long Beach

Job Summary

Prepare, cook, and serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner for on-premises dining and delivery to remote sites, including washing, peeling, cutting, and seasoning raw food. Monitor cooking processes, regulate oven temperatures, and package meals according to CACFP and Head Start regulations. Maintain food inventory, manage storage temperatures, and perform regular kitchen sanitation including sweeping, mopping, and scrubbing sinks and appliances. Wash cooking utensils and equipment while ensuring a safe environment for children ages 1-11. Monitor food allergies and attend designated meetings and trainings. Provide services on-site daily with an automobile and valid driver's license required for travel to school sites and offices.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications
  • Must have access to an automobile with adequate insurance coverage and a valid California driver's license, or have means to other easily accessible transportation
  • TB clearance within 6 months prior
  • Annual Influenza vaccination (between Nov. 1st - Mar. 31st)
  • Pertussis (whooping cough) and measles immunization
  • Health screening at the time of employment
  • Able to interact with children in a busy environment
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Frequently kneel and squat
  • Ability to move quickly
  • Must be able to read and write legibly in English
  • Must have general knowledge of current health and nutrition concepts
  • First Aid/CPR certified
  • Food handler certification
  • Services for this position must be provided on-site
  • Must report to work on-site each day of active employment
  • Monitor Food allergies

Desired Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • Certifications in public health, Nutrition education, Food safety, or related field
  • Work experience in Head Start/Early Head Start programs
  • Knowledge of CA driving laws
  • Knowledge of nutrition practices and allergy restrictions/food substitutions
  • Bilingual English/Spanish or other language i.e. Armenian or Farsi
  • Works well in a team and independently
  • Promotes nutrition curriculum, activities, and initiatives
