NURSING SUPERVISOR (Night Shift)

Job Summary
Direct unit operations by supervising RNs and LPNs, coordinating patient care with the Nurse Manager, and managing all systems and personnel for efficient functioning. Conduct daily rounds to assess staffing, investigate patient and staff grievances, and evaluate employee performance through work assignment reviews. Interview and select nursing staff, facilitate in-service training, and identify development needs. Ensure diagnostic and medical services are provided promptly, verify plan of care effectiveness through documentation, and collaborate with colleagues on professional issues. Requires a BSN, RN license, and 4+ years of inpatient psychiatric experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory role. Night shift position.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing
- RN License in the District of Columbia
- BLS Certification
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Basic Health Information Management (HIM) system knowledge
- Four or more years of inpatient psychiatric experience with clinical and administrative responsibilities
- At least two years of experience in a supervisory position
- 3-8 years of overall nursing experience
- Ability to collaborate with staff and patients of all racial, ethnicities, genders, and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Experience with policies and procedures related to the scope of nursing
- The ability to manage staff and advise senior management
- Coordinates resources from other disciplines and departments in the delivery of patient care
- Ensures that diagnostic, consultative, and medical services for patients are provided promptly as ordered
- Determines the effectiveness of the plan of care through documentation of patient care outcomes
- Provides professional consultation to colleagues and other hospital staff and seeks assistance from peers as needed
- Actively participates in nursing and hospital committees
- Verbalizes knowledge of professional issues and willingness to accomplish assigned tasks
- Rounds to assess current staffing on units
- Records staffing corrections in the shift report log binder
- Directs activities necessary for efficient functioning of systems and unit personnel
- Investigates patient and staff grievances promptly
- Evaluates and verifies employee performance through the review of completed work assignments and work techniques
- Identifies staff development and training needs and ensures that training is provided
- Interviews and selects nursing staff
- Facilitates in-service training
