Job Summary
Receives newly admitted patients, prepares identification tags, and assembles patient records while notifying physicians of new admissions and consultations. Records vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, diet, and activity on the summary sheet, then transcribes physician orders to charts and prepares cards and tickets. Answers the patient call system and telephone, delivers messages for supplies and staff, and checks charts for completeness at discharge before returning them to Medical Records. Files completed request slips from Laboratory and Radiology, prepares requisitions to maintain clerical supply inventories, and maintains the nursing station in a clean, safe, and orderly manner. Greet and assist visitors, operate office equipment, and type reports as directed. Requires a high school diploma, knowledge of medical terminology and billing codes, and computer literacy in Word and Excel.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
- Must possess physical abilities to endure prolonged sitting, moderate walking and standing, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling; exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects
- Must have knowledge of medical terminology ICD9 and CPT codes as pertains to billing
- Must be familiar with UB92 and HCFA competition
- Must be computer literate in Word and Excel
- Ability to operate routine office machines, including but not limited to postage meter, typewriter, display terminal and terminal printing, adding machine and fax machine
- Ability to type a minimum of 30 words per minute accurately
Desired Qualifications
- Preferably on year's experience in billing experience and experience in Microsoft word & excel
- Health care billing experience preferred
